Curiosity rover collects first Martian bedrock sample

The animation above depicts NASA's Curiosity rover drilling into Martian bedrock.

The rover used a drill attached to the end of its robotic arm to bore into the Martian surface. Curiosity beamed drilling images and other data to Earth yesterday.
