Facebook, Twitter 'Broadcast' World Series

Many baseball fans will follow the battle between the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers in the World Series with Facebook Groups and tweets.

Major League Baseball's MLB.com app is being used 1.9 million times a day on iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry and other mobile devices. "Baseball is well suited to constant updates for every pitch, and the smartphone is the ideal vehicle to view live entertainment," says Bob Bowman, chief executive of MLB.com.

Some 520,000 people are fans of the Giants on Facebook, the Rangers have about 320,000. About 12 million are either fans of MLB or one of its 30 teams on Facebook, says Bowman.

Approximately three million people have signed up to follow baseball tweets through MLB.
